I had to publish this just to make sure that everyone got to read it. I was already "green" with envy writing about Casa Pueblo's summer camp (http://www.lacoctelera.com/actividadesverano) and now this, I'll die of "green face disease"!!!!!

Here is Dr. Franz account of the experience:

Written by: Nico Franz, from the UPRM biology faculty.

Jennifer López is working with on a project sampling insects in three western Puerto Rican commonwealth forest (Guánica, Maricao, and Susúa). For this project the AlACiMa team kindly provided us with a portable power generator, which can be used to run certain specialized lights (mercury & UV) that attract lots of insects at night - beetles, moths, flies, little wasps, and many other six-legged things. This past Monday (June 18) we had our first of several field trips to Guánica. Two additional UPRM students - Daniel Lugo and Cecil Torres - came along to help (thanks!).

We arrived at Route 333, km 8.5 around 6:30 pm, freshly fed with sandwiches from a local restaurant (and I use the term loosely; it was fast food because we were running a little late. We quickly set up the lights and white sheets, approximately 300 m up a trail from the main road, and ran the whole system for nearly three hours, collecting pretty much any insect we could catch there.Jennifer is now in the lab trying to sort through the samples, mounting the insects on pins, and adding proper labels. Soon she will start identifying them to order, family, and hopefully species.

This will be pretty tough given that a lot of terms and different species are involved, but I am sure we'll manage somehow within the coming weeks. This time we didn't bring a camera, but next time (Susúa) we will and can then hopefully share some pictures.Saludos, Nico

Exito!
